The following are links to some dance- and music-related sites that I find useful and interesting. All links will open in a new window.
Dance
- Scots Music Group - promotes traditional music, song and dance in the Edinburgh area through a large programme of classes, workshops and social events. This is where I first learned to step dance.
- Sabhal Mòr Ostaig - Gaelic college on the Isle of Skye, which offers short courses in traditional music, dance and other arts during the summer months.
- Fèis Rois - runs a series of annual Fèisean (Gaelic arts tuition festivals focusing on music and dance), including an adult Fèis in Ullapool each May.
- Dannsa - Scottish step dance ensemble formed to celebrate the rich culture and infectious energy of traditional Scottish dance. Organises the annual Strathspé Away dance festival in Kingussie each November.
- John Sikorski - Scottish step dancer whose experiments with rhythm have had a big influence on my own.
- Donal Brown - another amazing Scottish step dancer and member of the band Breabach.
- Scottish Traditions of Dance Trust - exists to promote and encourage participation and enjoyment in all forms of Scottish traditional dance.
- Creative Heritage - Scottish dancer Pat Ballantyne specialises in step dance workshops and classes for all ages, based in Aberdeen.
- Step Dance Scotland - a Google Group devoted to Scottish step dance events and news.
- Jill Dreaddy DanceCo - dance studio in St. John's, where I take French Canadian step dance lessons with Gillian Fisher.
Music
- Fantoosh! - a trio of fiddle, cello and piano based in the Scottish Borders, performing a unique blend of classical, jazz and traditional music for weddings, ceilidhs and other events.
- Fair Witness - a collaboration between Scottish songwriters Suzanne Adam and Sandy Butler, combining melodious folk with the energy of acoustic rock.
- Ian Hayes - wonderful Nova Scotian guitarist and fiddler with whom I've been performing recently.
- yousedancin? ceilidh band - driving, highly danceable traditional tunes for Scottish ceilidh dancing at parties, functions or weddings in Aberdeen and Northeast Scotland.
